2 Apr 2008 - Community Tree Planting in Craiglockhart Dell
Hundreds of new native-species trees have been planted in Craiglockhart Dell. They are under 2 feet tall at the moment and so will not be immediately noticed but the work last year clearing out the dead wood and the plantings this year are very much for the long term benefit of the Dells.

On Sunday 30th April about 30 enthusiastic volunteers met at the Water of Leith Centre and were guided up the Dell to be given their spades and instructions by Forestry Commission Staff and the Council Ranger. They successfully planted up the first two of the designated areas. On Tuesday 2nd April further volunteers set about planting up a third area.
Forestry Commission staff will continue doing further plantings in more difficult areas. The next enhancement planned is the replacement of the old and rather worn benches and picnic tables. There are already attractive new information boards at both the Slateford and Colinton entrances to the Dells as shown below.
