18 Jun 2008 - The New Pedestrian Crossing at Meggetland is on its Way

After a long wait the much needed crossing is about to be installed.  In fact there will be two crossings with an island in the middle of the road.

There will be parking restrictions in force from Monday 23rd June until the completion of the project.  These will be both sides of the road from number 105 to number 129 Colinton Road with the crossing itself being opposite number 119.

Please Note: Tow away vehicles will be enforcing the restrictions!

The Puffin Crossing (Pedestrian User Friendly Intelligent Crossing) has automatic detection of pedestrians to extend or reduce the all-red period as required to suit the crossing speed of the pedestrian. As well as on-crossing detectors, kerbside detectors can cancel a pedestrian demand if the pedestrian walks away from the crossing point, perhaps having crossed the road in a gap in traffic.

There is more information on the type of crossing and how to use it safely here (PDF file).
