10 Feb 2008 - Major Upgrade for Union Canal

During February and March, British Waterways Scotland are carried out major upgrade work to the Union Canal between Learmonth and Wester Hailes . 

Part of this work was on a length running through Craiglockhart.  A whole stretch of the canal behind Allan Park was completely drained prior to being re-lined.  To facilitate the access of heavy equipment a temporary track was laid from Craiglockhart Road North down to the canal.  The pedestrian foot path has been fenced off and is currently usable but for public safety lengths of the towpath will be closed as required.
