Planning Matters
As a Community Council we have the right to be consulted on planning applications in our area and we provide feedback where appropriate. Shiela McDonald, our former Chair, is very experienced in planning matters. She examines the proposals for us and reports on the status of plans of significance at our open meetings. Quite some time can be spent in discussing some of the more contentious ones!
The City Council Planning Committee meets on a weekly basis to decide on the applications. The City Council Planning Department publishes weekly lists of both Planning Applications and Planning Decisions. There is also online access to their database of all the applications going through the system and of the decisions made over the last few years. This Planning Portal gives very complete information including application documents and detailed plans. It allows searches by property, by planning application, by district or even by Post Code. It also allows group searches on multiple parameters - for instance by Community Council area and by date range. The appropriate links are provided below.
There have been some recent developments that may be of specific interest including the Meggetland Tesco site and the Graysmill School site. In December 2007, a further variation to the intended Cairnpark School development was approved. In January 2008 an application was made for a hot food outlet in the empty unit adjacent to Tesco.

In April 2008 there was an application lodged in respect of Redhall House and grounds. This is for “Change of use and internal alternations to convert the former house from offices to 6no residential flats, external alterations to existing pedestrian access and parking spaces” Full sets of drawings are available on the Planning Portal here. |

Planning Portal Search Form
Please note that there are a number of points to watch out for when accessing the Planning Portal:
-
to view the images you must have an Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer
-
the files are very large and so require either broadband or a lot of patience!
-
There can also be browser compatibilty problems. The Council note that PublicAccess is best viewed using Internet Explorer version 5.5 and upwards and that certain parts of the site may not function correctly in other browsers. Specifically, Apple Macs are not supported at present.

In October 2006 there were problems with the Planning Portal Database. As a way of working round this any seach by Community Council Area now has to be done in two parts. The drop down menu now has a "(New)" option for applications since mid October 2006 and a second entry for earlier applications.
